Stephan Elmosnino
Freelance Music Producer
I am first and foremost a record producer, a field that I have been developing since 2004, where I started studying at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (on the Gold Coast).
Currently recording various bands at the Griffith University studios, I am developping my skills in producing alternative rock bands. I am also recording and producing a full lenght album for the funk band "Bad Gang" which should be completed by the end of the year.
The Bachelor of Popular Music Program that I achieved (with Honours) enabled me to study quite closely all the different fields related to the music industry. This included pop music history, audio engineering, composition and music business. The deep knowledge that I acquired in those fields while studying, especially in my honours year as music production was my only subject, was essential in understanding record production properly.
As a producer, I prefer working with rock bands, ranging from ambient rock to pop and aternative metal. Drawing my prodcution influences mostly from French pop rock and metal, I always like to add electronic elements to my productions, and pull massive but clean sounds for the bands I record and produce. Having experimented producing a wide range of styles including rap, metal, reggae, acoustic and electric pop, and others, I found that a good production in pop rock is the biggest challenge I can face and therefore is my favorite.
I am competent with the following programs:
Pro Tools 7
Reason 3
Cubase SX2
Sound Forge 7
Photoshop CS
Session Percussion Player
I am a professional percussionist from New Caledonia that has been living in Australia since 2003.
I am currently playing in clubs around Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the latest being "The MET", "GPO", "Empire", "Embassy", "Birdee Num Num", "The Fox", "Uber", "Ruby Tramp", "Mybar", etc... The latest organisations I have been playing for are A.D.I.C.T.S. for their "Breaks and Enter" and "D'Lish" nights around Brisbane and RSVP for their "RSVP" events. Mostly playing with DJs, I also perform with different full bands around the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The latest venues for those kinds of gigs being "The Zoo", "Hard Rock Cafe", "The Basement" and more.
Some other venues and events I played at include "Valley Fiesta", "Future Music Festival", "Ekka Races", "Hydrate Bar", “Varsity Tavern”, "Liquid Bar”, “Swingin Safari”, “Central”, “Martini’s”, “Disco”, "Santai", "Swell Tavern", "Parkwood Tavern", "Lonestar Tavern" and private functions at the Gold Coast Convention Center and around Brisbane. As a percussionist in bands, I have also played at "Tongue en Groove", "Jubilee Hotel", "The Chophouse", "Swingin Safari", Griffith Uni Bar", "Rose and Crown", "Three Worlds", etc...
I started playing the djembe in 2003 with some friends, and as I enetered the Bachelor of Popular Music program at Griffith University, I developped my skills by playing with all sorts of musicians in different backgrounds. It was in early 2004 that I started playing the bongos and congas and quickly went on performing with house music DJs in bars and clubs around the Gold Coast. As time went by, I developped a definite style of playing the percussions that joined the skills of the African djembe with the Latin congas and bongos. After a while, I started adding new elements to my playing and percussion set to accomodate with the different gig's needs. For the biggest concerts, I now use a variety of instruments including bongos, congas, djembe, mini-darabuka, cymbal, cowbell, tamborine, shaker, ratchet, vibraslap, triangle, chimes, cabasa, guiro, and even bicycle bells and horns.
Mostly performing with DJs playing House music (from Commercial / Deep House to Latin House, etc…), I have been experimenting with some Break Beats, Dub Reggae, even Pop Rock for some gigs. But my favorite club styles remains Deep Electro House and Latin House. When playing with a full band, Funk is the style enjoy most.
Here is the bio to take if using it onto another website:
French percussionist Stephan “El nino” started playing in Queensland in 2004. Blending African
drumming and Latin conga styles makes his performances adapt to any music in a new way that
will resonate deep into the souls of the dancing crowds. The temperature will rise all the more as
Electro / House is coming out of the decks.
Having played in Brisbane and the Gold Coast’s hottest music festivals such as “Future Music Festival”, “Oceans30”, “BBQ Breaks” and clubs including “The MET”, “GPO”, “Empire” and “Ruby Tramp” to name a few, El nino has induced ear-gasms, toe-tapping and hip-spasms in more people than one could count to, now reaching as far as Melbourne, Sydney and back home in New Caledonia. Whatever the occasion for going out clubbing, the hot resonance of Stephane Elmosnino A.K.A The El Nino effect will turn up the temperature with his sizzling percussions and drum beats. Just like his namesake, his alluring and almost hypnotic beat patterns will leave you breathless and wet with perspiration.
